Volume of Activation

Volume of Activation
Definition:The volume of activation is defined as the difference between the sum of partial molar volumes of the transition state and the sum of the partial volumes of the reactants at constant temperature and pressure: ΔV = - R T (∂ln K/∂p), where R represent the gas constant, T the temperature and (∂ln K/∂p) the pressure dependence of the equilibrium constant K.
Units:m3 mol-1
Symbol:ΔV
