Stefan-Boltzmann Constant

Stefan-Boltzmann Constant
Definition:Proportionality factor σ that relates the emissive power of radation P per unit area A of an ideal black body having emissivity ε = 1 to its temperature T: P/A = ε σ T4 (Stefan-Boltzmann law). The Stefan-Boltzmann constant can be derived from integration of Planck's law of blackbody radation over all radiation frequencies: σ = 2 π5 k4/15 ℎ3 c2, where k = Boltzmann constant, ℎ = Planck constant and c = velocity of light.
σ = 5.670400(40) 10-8 W m-2 K-4
Units:W m-2K-4
Symbol:σ
Scope note:Present value: 2006 CODATA recommended values
