Longitudinal Relaxation Time (NMR Spectroscopy)
Definition:Time needed until the perturbed spin system has reached its equilibrium spin state. Longitudinal relaxation is defined by interaction of the spins with the environment (lattice). To determine the longitudinal relaxation time T1 one measures the z-component parallel to the macroscopic magnetization: dMz/dt = - (Mz - Mz, eq)/T1.
